For most pour-over and espresso setups, start with the Timemore Basic 2.0 . Timemore says it reads from 0.1 g up to 2 kg and adds an automatic timer and a water flow rate function, on a rechargeable battery. If you only brew pour-over, the compact Hario V60 Drip Scale is the simpler choice. The Fellow Tally Pro adds a ratio mode, the Brød & Taylor scale handles bigger kitchen jobs, and the Subminimal Subscale weighs your dose in the cup.
A scale replaces scoops with grams, so you can repeat a recipe from one day to the next. Specs below come from each maker’s own product page, checked October 9, 2026. Nobody tested these scales for this page.

1. Timemore Basic 2.0: Best Overall Coffee Scale
Timemore Basic 2.0 Coffee Scale (Black) on Amazon
Timemore says the Basic 2.0 measures from 0.1 g up to 2 kg, with a minimum detection weight of 0.5 g. It has a backlit LCD screen with touch buttons, switches between grams and ounces, and runs an automatic timer alongside a water flow rate function for brewing.
The body is acrylic. Timemore lists a waterproof dial surface, a closable charging port and a silicone pad in the box. A 1600mAh rechargeable battery runs up to 10 hours, and the scale shuts off after 3 minutes without use.
The trade-off: Timemore doesn’t publish the dimensions on its product page, so check the fit if you want it on a drip tray.
Best for: one scale for both pour-over and espresso.
2. Hario V60 Drip Scale: Best Compact Pour-Over Scale
Hario V60 Drip Scale (Black) on Amazon
Hario designed the V60 Drip Scale to fit a server while keeping a small footprint, and it measures 120 x 190 x 29 mm. It has a built-in timer for following and repeating brew recipes, a 2,000 g maximum, and an ABS resin body and weighing platform.
Precision changes with the load. Hario lists 0.1 g steps from 2 g to 200 g, 0.5 g steps from 200 g to 500 g, and 1 g steps from 500 g to 2,000 g. It comes with batteries.
The trade-off: Hario says it is not water resistant, and readings past 200 g are in 0.5 g or 1 g steps.
Best for: a V60 or other pour-over setup where a timer and grams are all you need.
3. Fellow Tally Pro: Best for Ratio-Guided Pour-Over
Search Amazon for Fellow Tally Pro
The Tally Pro is built around ratios. In Brew Assist mode you choose a coffee-to-water ratio and the scale guides you to the target brew weight. Timer mode shows the timer and weight side by side, and Weight mode measures in grams, ounces, pounds and milliliters.
Fellow lists a 2,500 g maximum, 0.1 g readability and an OLED screen, and it currently sells the Studio Edition with a glass base and metal dial. The lithium-ion battery lasts 13 hours of continuous use and charges over USB-C in 1 to 2 hours. It measures 177 x 150 x 33 mm, and the weigh pan comes off for cleaning.
The trade-off: Fellow says it is water resistant but not waterproof, so don’t immerse it or put any part in the dishwasher. Fellow’s own store lists the Studio Edition, so check that an Amazon listing names it.
Best for: pour-over brewers who would rather follow a ratio than do the math.
4. Brød & Taylor Precision Kitchen & Coffee Scale: Best for Coffee and Baking
Search Amazon for Brød & Taylor Precision Kitchen & Coffee Scale
Brød & Taylor lists 0.1 g accuracy up to 3 kg, the highest capacity here, with a timer for pour-over. It shows grams, ounces and milliliters, and has a raised weighing platform that the maker says adds precision and stability.
Brød & Taylor puts its weight at 7.4 oz (209 g), with a rigid plastic base and platform. Duracell batteries come in the box, and the maker offers a 3-year limited warranty with registration.
The trade-off: it takes batteries, and the maker lists no rechargeable option, flow rate or ratio features.
Best for: a kitchen where one scale handles coffee, baking and everyday cooking.
5. Subminimal Subscale: Best Dosing Cup Scale
Subminimal Subscale Digital Dosing Cup on Amazon
The Subscale is a dosing cup with a scale built into it. You dose beans straight into the cup, and Subminimal says you can also pull espresso into it and read the weight as it fills. It reads to 0.1 g or 0.01 oz, and a hidden LED display lights up when you tap it.
Subminimal lists a 99.9 g maximum display, room for about 60 g of beans and a 120 ml cup. The body is BPA-free Tritan, which the maker rates for liquids up to 100°C (212°F) for up to 2 hours. It is IPX-4 water resistant, charges over USB-C, has a 400mAh battery and turns off after 60 seconds.
The trade-off: it weighs up to 99.9 g only, so it can’t weigh a full pour-over brew.
Best for: espresso and single-dose grinder setups that weigh every dose.
How to Choose
- Match capacity to the job. Pour-over needs room for the brewer, server and water, so look at the 2 kg and larger scales. The Subscale only weighs up to 99.9 g.
- Check precision across the range. Hario lists 0.5 g steps above 200 g and 1 g steps above 500 g on the V60 Drip Scale. The other four makers list 0.1 g with no step change.
- Decide on brew features. A timer covers most recipes. The Timemore adds flow rate, and the Fellow’s Brew Assist mode works from a ratio.
- Pick a power source. The Timemore, Fellow and Subscale recharge. The Hario and Brød & Taylor come with batteries.
- Think about water. Only Subminimal says its Subscale can be rinsed. Hario says its scale is not water resistant, and Fellow says not to immerse the Tally Pro.
Pair the scale with a dripper from our pour-over drippers for beginners and a grinder from our pour-over grinder picks . For espresso doses, our portafilter basket size picker matches the basket to the dose you weigh, and our electric kettle picks cover the pour.
Frequently Asked Questions
What precision does a coffee scale need?
Look for 0.1 g steps across the range you use. Fellow, Brød & Taylor and Subminimal list 0.1 g precision, and Timemore lists measurements from 0.1 g up to 2 kg. The Hario V60 Drip Scale reads 0.1 g only up to 200 g, then 0.5 g up to 500 g and 1 g above that.
Do I need a scale with a timer?
For pour-over and espresso, a timer on the scale lets you track weight and time on one screen. The Timemore, Hario, Fellow and Brød & Taylor scales all have one. The Subminimal Subscale is a dosing cup and its maker does not list a timer.
Can I rinse a coffee scale under the tap?
Of these five, only Subminimal says so: it rates the Subscale IPX-4 and says it can be washed on all sides. Fellow says not to immerse the Tally Pro or put it in the dishwasher, Hario says the V60 Drip Scale is not water resistant, and Timemore lists a waterproof dial surface and a closable charging port but no rinsing advice.
