For a gas or electric stove, start with the Bialetti Moka Express, 6-cup . It is the original octagonal aluminum moka pot, and Bialetti sells it in six sizes, from 1 to 18 cups. On an induction cooktop, choose the stainless steel Bialetti Venus or the Moka Induction instead, and if crema matters to you, look at the Brikka.
A moka pot makes strong, concentrated stovetop coffee, not pump espresso; our espresso machine vs moka pot comparison covers that choice. One sizing note before you shop: Bialetti says moka “cups” are espresso-sized servings of about 2 oz each, not mugs. Specs below come from Bialetti’s and Grosche’s own product pages, checked October 9, 2026. Nobody tested these pots for this page.

1. Bialetti Moka Express: Best Classic Moka Pot
Bialetti Moka Express, 6-Cup (Red) on Amazon
The Moka Express is the design Bialetti has made since 1933, with its octagonal aluminum boiler and a safety valve that Bialetti says is easy to inspect and clean. It is made for gas and electric stovetops; on induction it needs Bialetti’s induction plate adapter.
Sizes run from 1 to 18 cups. Bialetti lists the 1-cup at 2 oz, the 3-cup at 4.4 oz, the 6-cup at 9.1 oz, the 9-cup at 14.2 oz, the 12-cup at 22 oz and the 18-cup at 27.3 oz. Bialetti says to rinse it with water only after use, with no detergent, and not to put it in the dishwasher.
The trade-off: no direct induction use.
Best for: a gas or electric stove, and the widest choice of sizes.
2. Bialetti Venus: Best for Induction and Stainless Steel
Bialetti Venus, 6-Cup (Silver) on Amazon
The Venus is Bialetti’s all-stainless option, made of 18/10 stainless steel. Bialetti says it works on gas, electric and induction cooktops without an adapter.
It comes in three sizes: the 4-cup makes 5.7 oz, the 6-cup 7.9 oz and the 10-cup 15.5 oz. Like the Moka Express, Bialetti says to rinse it with water and skip soap and the dishwasher.
The trade-off: the 6-cup Venus makes less coffee than the 6-cup Moka Express, 7.9 oz against 9.1 oz.
Best for: induction kitchens and anyone who wants a stainless steel pot.
3. Bialetti Moka Induction: Best Small Pot for Induction
Bialetti Moka Induction, 2-Cup (Red) on Amazon
The Moka Induction keeps the Moka Express look up top but changes the base. Bialetti pairs an octagonal aluminum upper chamber with a conical stainless steel boiler, which makes it work on induction as well as traditional cooktops.
This listing is the 2-cup size. Bialetti’s U.S. product page for it does not state the capacity in ounces, so check the listing if the exact volume matters.
The trade-off: a 2-cup pot suits one or two small servings, and the maker page gives no ounce figure.
Best for: one person on an induction cooktop who wants the classic octagonal top.
4. Bialetti Brikka: Best for Crema
Search Amazon for Bialetti Brikka
The Brikka is the moka pot built around crema. Bialetti says that, unlike other moka pots, it uses a patented pressure design and a silicone valve to produce coffee topped with crema. It is made of food-grade aluminum with a heat-resistant handle.
Bialetti lists two sizes: the 2-cup makes 3.3 oz and the 4-cup 5.7 oz. It works on gas, electric and camping stoves, and on induction with Bialetti’s adapter plate, sold separately. Bialetti also sells a separate Brikka Induction (Search Amazon for Bialetti Brikka Induction ) with a two-layer aluminum and steel boiler; its 4-cup makes about 5.4 oz of coffee and crema.
The trade-off: small sizes only, and the standard Brikka needs a plate for induction.
Best for: drinkers who want a crema-topped cup from the stove.
5. Grosche Milano: Best Non-Bialetti Alternative
Search Amazon for Grosche Milano 6-Cup
The Grosche Milano is an aluminum moka pot with a certified Italian safety valve and a burn guard built into its soft-touch handle. Grosche lists it for gas, electric, propane and glass stovetops and says it does not work on induction. It is hand wash only.
Grosche sells the 6-cup Milano in several colors, including black, chrome, white, red and blue. Grosche also makes a separate Milano Steel in 18/8 stainless steel for induction (Search Amazon for Grosche Milano Steel ).
The trade-off: no induction, and Grosche doesn’t list the ounce capacity on the 6-cup product page.
Best for: gas, electric and propane stoves, including camp stoves, if you want an alternative to Bialetti.
How to Choose
- Check your stovetop first. Induction rules out the Milano and needs a plate for the aluminum Moka Express and Brikka. The Venus and Moka Induction work on induction directly.
- Size by ounces, not cups. Bialetti’s cup is about 2 oz. A 6-cup Moka Express makes 9.1 oz in total, not six mugs.
- Aluminum or stainless steel. The Moka Express, Brikka and Milano are aluminum. The Venus is 18/10 stainless steel, and the Moka Induction mixes both.
- Brew the way the maker says. Bialetti says to fill the boiler with room-temperature water up to the safety valve, use moka-ground coffee that is not too fine, fill the funnel without pressing the coffee, and brew on low heat.
- Plan for hand cleaning. Bialetti says to rinse with water only, and Grosche says hand wash only.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size moka pot should I buy?
Moka pot cups are espresso servings, not mugs. Bialetti counts a cup as about 2 oz, so its 3-cup Moka Express makes 4.4 oz and the 6-cup makes 9.1 oz. Buy for the amount of coffee you drink at one time.
Can I use a moka pot on an induction stove?
Only some. Bialetti says the Venus works on induction without an adapter and the Moka Induction is built for it. The aluminum Moka Express and Brikka need Bialetti’s induction plate, and Grosche says the aluminum Milano does not work on induction.
Can a moka pot go in the dishwasher?
Not these. Bialetti says to rinse the Moka Express and Venus with water only, with no detergent or dishwasher, and Grosche says the Milano is hand wash only.
